Chief Keef's second cousin and the oldest GBE (Glory Boyz Entertainment) member, Blood Money a.k.a. Big Glo, legally known as Mario Hess, was gunned down in the mean streets of Chiraq on Wednesday night, April 9th. According to his cousin and manager, Renaldo Reuben Hess, the shooting occurred in West Englewood when he was on his way to the studio but stopped to talk to a few girls who were inside of a car. That's when an an unidentified shooter walked up and gunned him down. Renaldo claims that there is no known motive for the murder of his cousin.
Police say the shooting occurred at 9:45 p.m., as 30-year-old Mario Hess' body was found lying on a sidewalk of the 5600 block of South Elizabeth Street with multiple gunshot wounds to his chest. Hess was shot as many as 10 times and over two dozen shell casings were found on the ground at the scene of the crime. Authorities believe two shooters are responsible for Hess' murder. Another man, 28, was also injured during the shooting and is currently in serious condition at the John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where Hess was pronounced dead at 10:29 p.m.
Hess had an extensive criminal record, as he has appeared in court for at least 36 separate cases including manufacturing and delivering cocaine, aggravated battery and possession of a firearm by a felon, among other offenses.
Just two weeks prior to the shooting, Big Glo was signed to Interscope Records with dreams of finding success similar to that of associates Fredo Santana and Chief Keef, whom Blood Money has collaborated with in the past on Keef's song "F*ck Rehab." His cousin Renaldo spoke on how music was his dream, and also his ticket out of the dangers that have plagued Chicago for so long.
"This was his dream and he finally got his foot in the door. But that's how it goes in Chicago. He really wanted to get off the streets."
Since news broke of his murder, GBE associates and fans have all taken to Twitter to pay their respects to the fallen Chiraq soldier and would-be future star. Check out the many reactions to Big Glo's passing above.
