Rob Markman of MTV News and 2 Chainz got a chance to talk about the rapper's latest EP "Freebase" which dropped online this past Tuesday, and Tity Boi had some interesting things to say about the popular Atlanta rap group, Migos.
Migos grew in notoriety after the release of their song Versace, especially when Drake dropped a remix making it an even bigger sensation. In the song, the trio employ a start-and-stop delivery with lyrics set in quick triplets. This has since been dubbed "Migos Flow". Notable artists who have also used this rhyme style, or a variation of it, include Drake on his Nothing Was The Same track "The Language", J. Cole's piece on the "TKO" remix with Justin Timberlake, and Young Jeezy on Rocko's "Which 1 U Workin'".
"Look at my car, how did it get on dem sixes/ This flow come from Drizzy, he got it from Migos, they got it from Three Six," Tity Boy says while using the "Migos Flow" delivery on the song "Trap Back" from Freebase.
Former Three 6 rapper Gangsta Boo weighed in via Twitter back in March, calling attention to Lord Infamous and Skinny Pimp, whom she says rapped in that style in 1992, or possibly before.
"There's a certain delivery that they brought to the game that people started snacking on, that was something that derived from a Memphis flow period," 2 Chainz told MTV. "I can name 100 Memphis cats that had the flow. Then of course Drizzy is someone that is a perfectionist, someone that is very clear, period. You can understand everything, he's a professional."
2 Chainz doesn't want to be mistook, however. "Hip-hop is just a gumbo full of different patterns, flows, deliveries. So I was just stating my opinion, it wasn't a dis or nothing like that, I was just stating my opinion," he clarified.
