Raven-Symone made some very bold statements during her OWN TV interview with Oprah yesterday, October 5th, and has since sparked a firestorm of reactions from fans on Twitter. Raven, an openly and proudly gay young woman, stated that she is very tired of all of the labels that exist within society and that she doesn't want to looked at as "gay," but rather as "a human who loves humans." She took things a step further when she confidently stated multiple times, "I'm an American. I'm not an African American, I'm an American."
Oprah immediately took notice to how controversial that statement would be in the eyes of the general public and warned her "Oh girl, don't set up the Twitter on fire," but Raven continued to defend her views of how she views herself despite her skin color. Since the footage of her interview was released, Raven's "I'm not African American" statement created loads of reactions and passionate discussions among the many Twitter users throughout the nation. Some people agree with her, that it is time that this country dismiss the many labels that it has created for the many people who fill its land, while others believe that she is turning her back on her true heritage.
