As Hip-Hop continues to demonstrate that it's the world's most influential genre of music, it was only right that last night, lyricist turned actor Ludacris was entrusted to host the 2015 Billboard Music awards alongside supermodel Chrissy Teigen.
The highly entertaining awards show, which aired from Las Vegas' MGM Grand Garden Arena, was packed with the biggest names in music like Taylor Swift, who was the big winner of the night, earning 8 awards including Top Artist and Top Female Artist. Capitalizing off the moment from her highly successful album '1989,' Swift debuted the music video for her track "Bad Blood," which features two verses from Kendrick Lamar.
Sharing the spotlight, Swift then introduced legendary Rock band Van Halen, who performed their global hit "Panama." Their appearance marked the band's first appearance at an awards show with members Eddie, Alex, Wolfgang Van Halen and David Lee Roth.
The well-crafted show created an intricate balancing act by offering both contemporary Hip-Hop and R&B artists including: John Legend, Nicki Minaj, Wiz Khalifa, and Pitbull featuring Chris Brown, Nick Jonas, and Ed Sheeran, and veteran icon Mariah Carey. After 17 years the R&B diva graced the stage with her catalog of hits like "Vision of Love," and even offered her new track, "Infinity."
In addition to the slew of intriguing performances, empathetic tributes to great artists who have passed away like, B.B. King and Ben E. King, received heartfelt commemorations from Ludacris. The late Paul Walker was given tribute as well during Wiz Khalifa's performance of "See You Again," which serves as the anthem to the 'Furious 7' flick.
50 Cent, Taraji P. Henson, Charli XCX, Khloe Kardashian, Kylie Jenner and Rita Ora all contributed their time and presented different awards throughout the evening.
Australian import Iggy Azalea showed her cross-over appeal by winning in the categories for Top Streaming Artist, Top Rap Artist, and Top Rap Song for her infectious hit, "Fancy." DJ Snake and Lil Jon won the Top Dance/Electronic Song for their tune "Turn Down For What." Proven crooner John Legend won two awards for earning the Top Radio Song and Top Streaming Song [Audio] for the hit, "All of Me." Pharrell's creativity was on point as he was awarded the Top R&B Artist, Top R&B Album for his latest project, 'G I R L,' and Top R&B Song for "Happy."
