"I did feel, at some point, that I would have to address the complexity of my identity," says former President of the NAACP Washington Chapter Rachel Dolezal. Then she tells veteran broadcast journalist Matt Lauer that despite the backlash, "I identify as Black."
Earlier today (June 16), Dolezal spoke on the "Today" show and stated that although at age 16 she did not identify as Black, at this point in time she fully considers herself to be an African-American woman.
Check out the entire clip as she delves into an interesting discussion about using a "brown crayon instead of the peach crayon" to draw self-portraits with "black curly hair," how her physical appearance has changed over the years, and why regardless of it all, she wouldn't change a thing.
