With the success of "Straight Outta Compton" making headlines around the world, Dr. Dre's name has been in the news nonstop along with Ice Cube, Eazy-E and the rest of the crew formerly known as N.W.A. With that being said, not all the stories on the mega-producer this past week have been entirely positive. Dre's ex-fiance, Michel'le, interviewed with us recently and detailed the abusive times she faced while with him, and Dee Barnes, a respected music journalist, spoke out about the time he allegedly assaulted her at a nightclub back in 1991. Neither of these women were depicted in "Straight Outta Compton," which didn't come as much of a surprise to the two of them.
Today, Dr. Dre has finally decided to address the stories in statement released to the New York Times. "Twenty-five years ago I was a young man drinking too much and in over my head with no real structure in my life," he began. "However, none of this is an excuse for what I did. I've been married for 19 years and every day I'm working to be a better man for my family, seeking guidance along the way. I'm doing everything I can so I never resemble that man again."
He then spoke directly to Michel'le and Barnes, as well as the other women who he's allegedly put hands on in the past. "I apologize to the women I've hurt. I deeply regret what I did and know that it has forever impacted all of our lives."
Even Apple has released a statement, being that Dr. Dre is one of their top consultants. "Dre has apologized for the mistakes he's made in the past and he's said that he's not the same person that he was 25 years ago. We believe his sincerity and after working with him for a year and a half, we have every reason to believe that he has changed."
