Nick Cannon was moved by the story of a New Orleans couple expecting a child together being gunned down earlier in the week, and the famed entertainer donated $1,000 to a GoFundMe page set up by the woman's family. Toya Wright also donated to the page, which exceeded its $8,000 goal in one day.
Police are still searching for a suspect after Lionel "Bumma" Delpit III, 25, and Breon Stewart, 23, were gunned down as they were pulling into the parking lot of the Wind Run Apartments. First responders tried to save the couple and their unborn child, but were unsuccessful in their efforts.
Commander Doug Eckert said that he and the investigators are "confident that this wasn't a random act," and he added that the incident is a "hideous crime."
Stewart, the 2011 valedictorian at George Washington Carver High School, was due by Christmas. She and her twin sister, Britnee, celebrated their pregnancies at the same time, as the sister gave birth last week. Delpit, little chief of the Black Feather Mardi Gras Indian tribe, was working two jobs to provide for their new child, whom they planned to name Lionel Delpit IV.
