Yesterday millions of people took their chances with the Powerball jackpot after it went from $400 million to an even $500 million over the course of the week. No one bought a winning ticket for last night's drawing, and according to lottery officials over 300 million of them were purchased between Sunday and Wednesday. After the numbers 2, 11, 47, 62, 63 and 17 were called and no one stepped up to claim the prize by early Thursday morning, Powerball set the next drawing up for Saturday, January 9 with a chance to win an estimated $675 million. The staggering number will make U.S. history as the largest Powerball jackpot on record. "This is more than 10 times what we see when the jackpot is at the lower levels," said Texas Lottery spokesperson Kelly Cripe.
So if you reside in one of the 44 states where Powerball is sold, try your luck. Hey, you never know.
