When it comes to the lack of diversity in Hollywood, many celebrities of color have voiced their frustrations and disappointments throughout the years. Even with criticism over less leading roles being handed to Blacks, actress Jada Pinkett Smith, and the 88th Academy Awards show's host Chris Rock, pointed out that they are also ignored while their peers are often recognized.
Pinkett-Smith and Rock have expressed the ongoing issues of Black actors and actresses being unacknowledged and continuously snubbed at the prestigious award show. Saturday (Jan.16), Jada wrote about her concerns on her official Facebook page, telling fans, "At the Oscars...people of color are always welcomed to give out awards...even entertain, but we are rarely recognized for our artistic accomplishments. Should people of color refrain from participating all together? People can only treat us in the way in which we allow." She concluded, "With much respect in the midst of deep disappointment."
Friday, a day after the nominations were announced, Rock added humor with his criticism, tweeting, "The #Oscars. The White BET Awards."
