FOX News Channel contributor Stacey Dash recently clarified why she doesn't stand with Jada Pinkett Smith and Spike Lee's choice to boycott this year's Academy Awards ceremony. Dash does agree the selection of Academy voters who decide on the nominees needs to be more diverse (as reports have suggested the voters are predominately White males), but to miss out on the event entirely is "ludicrous" to her. "Why is it just now being addressed?," she questioned.
The actress and politicial commentator told the reporter there should not be a network that only celebrates and is attentive to the Black culture. "Either we want to have segregation or integration, and if we don't want segregation then we need to get rid of channels like B.E.T., and the B.E.T. Awards and the Image Awards where you're only awarded if you're Black. If it were the other way around we would be up in arms - it's a double standard," said Dash. She also believes "there shouldn't be a Black History Month." "You know, we're Americans. Period. That's it."
