Just a day before her Super Bowl 50 performance alongside Coldplay, Beyonce dropped her music video for "Formation." Shortly after its release, the new single, since her 2014 album Beyoncé: Platinum Edition dropped, has reached number 1 on the real-time Billboard and Twitter Trending 140 chart.
The video has racial undertones in various parts. The lyrics include "I like my baby hair with baby hair and afros, I like my negro nose with Jackson 5 nostrils". Images of "stop shooting us", Martin Luther King and Beyonce sitting on a sinking police car are scattered throughout the video.
