Cash Money Records co-founders and brothers Bryan “Baby” Williams and Ronald “Slim” Williams are currently developing a script for a biopic about the history of the New Orleans based label.  The duo announced their recent undertaking during a speaking engagement at Brooklyn Law School. Baby expressed his enthusiasm about the project saying, “I’m excited about the script. That’s something I really, really wanted to do”.

Birdman credited the overwhelming success of the 2015 N.W.A. biopic “Straight Outta Compton” for influencing his decision to bring the Cash Money story to the big screen saying, “I think that Dr. Dre and Ice Cube are geniuses for what they have done and accomplished”. He continues to praise the west coast hip hop legends for paving the way for artists in the music and film industry saying, “For them to do that and to make it trend-setting, they opened doors for us, and I just think that what we have is way more special because we’re in modern times.”

Cash Money Records was founded in New Orleans in 1991 by the brothers whom at the time were seeking a way out of street life and trying to create positive opportunities for young men living in New Orleans housing projects. Speaking of the label’s journey Slim said, “There's a lot of things that people don't know that we went through, things that happened behind the scenes of the company, things that happened before we were with Universal." He continues, "So we got a lot of stories, but the way I'm putting it together is gonna be great.”

Baby confirmed that writing for the biopic is currently underway although they have not disclosed information about a release timeline, or film distribution deal. Cash Money Records is one of the most successful hip hop labels in history with more than 500 million singles sold under the imprint.
