In recent weeks the chatter about Floyd Mayweather coming out of retirement has grown, with the boxer himself adding fuel to the fire.  While many discussed the possibility of him fighting Danny Garcia or Gennady Golovkin aka Triple G, a twist was thrown with talks arising about a fight between Mayweather and UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor.

McGregor is currently in a dispute with the UFC after being taken off the UFC 200 card for failing to appear for promotional events.  The MMA fighter posted a mockup fight poster on his Instagram account of him facing off against Mayweather with the caption “MMA Vs Boxing”.  McGregor said he's open to fighting Mayweather.  Floyd and his team stirred up more interest by saying the fight could indeed happen, telling ESNEWS it's the only one he would come out of retirement for.  "If I do fight, it's only against Conor McGregor. That's gonna be my only fight and not against nobody else because this matchup is just so intriguing," said Mayweather.

In a separate interview with Steve Farhood of Showtime Sports, Mayweather again discussed the possibility of the fight and appears eager to make it happen.  "It's really not a rumor, the fight may happen.  We really don't know as of right now, but do I think the fight will happen?  Absolutely," said Mayweather.

When asked if it would be a boxing match or an MMA match, Mayweather says it would be a boxing match because he's the A-side aka bigger fighter that generates more interest.

"We the A-side of course it has to be a boxing match because most fights that Conor McGregor won inside the octagon, he was a stand up guy.  So, I'm pretty sure it's going to be a tough fight for me. We don't really know as of right now, but it’s been a lot of talk and hopefully we can make the fight happen," Mayweather says.

It was noted that Mayweather has been the best fighter for the past 20 years - he retired at 49-0 - so does he really think McGregor is going to give him a tough fight?

"He's no pushover, one thing about Conor McGregor, he's no pushover," said Mayweather.  "He fell short in his last bout, but a true champion can always bounce back so that's a guy that I can't overlook, but we haven't picked a venue, we haven't talked about money yet..."

Money could be a sticking point as MMA fighters are grossly underpaid in comparison to boxers.  McGregor is still under contract with the UFC and they have been careful not to set a precedent for it's fighters in terms of massive money, but McGregor has already made it clear that he intends to make way more money than others before him.

Mayweather however says there's no doubt that he will get $100 million.
