G.O.O.D Music artist Desiigner released his debut mixtape, New English, at the strike of midnight on Saturday, June 25. The complete 14-track mix is padded with the Brooklyn rapper's first solo "Zombie Walk" and the wildly popular "Panda." Listeners will find features from Pusha T and King Savage, but the lions share of the work rests on the 19-year-old rapper.
The mixtape was premiered at a listening party hosted by TIDAL last week in New York City, and meets the anticipation of social media followers who've had it teased before them since. Desiigner faces the task of living up to expectations that no rapper has ever set with only their first mainstream single. "Panda" was certified platinum after riding the tip of the Billboard Hot 100 chart for most of the first quarter of 2016.
Desiigner also has comparisons to Atlanta rapper Future placing a high bar before him, but it remains to be seen whether or not that will work in his favor. Never the less, radio just may be enticed to try him out with a back story that brought him from doing hooks on GS9 records to an 11-label bidding war after a chance meeting with Kanye.
