The rapper who is making waves under the name 22 Savage, after co-opting the look and style of artist 21 Savage, might have been recognized by fans of former Vine comedian Mighty Mike. That would have a lot to do with the fact that 22 Savage and Mighty Mike is the same person. In a recent interview with Say Cheese TV, MacArthur Johnson makes no bones about being a regular Joe from the streets, trying to find a come up. But an obstacle that stands before the Baton Rouge native may prevent him from making it too far. Johnson is currently fighting a case that his followers might recall having made headlines in earlier this year.
Johnson was charged with second-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon, and obstruction of justice in connection with the May 3 slaughter of Richard Phillips in Baker, Louisiana. Phillips had reportedly been handing out party fliers in the parking lot outside of a supermarket when he was confronted by Johnson and two accomplices. A dispute ensued, but Phillips was able to part without incident, before returning to readdress Johnson over the matter. That's when Johnson let a gunshot off, hitting Phillips in the chest. Police were able to locate the vehicle Johnson was in, due in part to the damage the front passenger window had sustained. He would claim self-defense in the shooting, but faces an uphill battle, according to authorities, footage drawn from the scene appears to challenge his assertion.
During the Say Cheese TV interview, Johnson is asked about the incident, but he refuses to address it. He remains out on $370,000 bond.
