The Democratic governor of North Carolina and its Republican-controlled legislature came together Wednesday to announce that they had reached an agreement to repeal the state's controversial law that restricts legal protection for LGBT individuals and requires transgender people to use the bathroom that corresponds with the gender on their birth certificate.
But LGBT activists were left unsatisfied by the announcement, noting that the deal would continue to allow discrimination.
Sports leagues and businesses have boycotted the state in response to the law, known as House Bill 2, which went into effect in March 2016. The NCAA previously warned that they would not hold any championship sporting events in the state through 2022.
It is unclear if the lawmakers' actions will be enough to end the various boycotts.
