Kellyanne Conway and CNN commentator Chris Cuomo have a heated debate regarding the timing of F.B.I. director James Comey's firing after Conway deemed it "inappropriate" to question the president on the status of a new F.B.I. director. Cuomo raised questions as to whether the firing of Comey was an attempt by Trump to sway the investigation into members of his campaign possibly conspiring with Russia to influence the 2016 presidential election.
"You want to question the timing of when [Trump] hires, when [Trump] fires,” Conway said on CNN. “It’s inappropriate. He’ll do it when he wants to”, later insisting that the firing of Comey had nothing to do with the Russia investigation, ultimately calling it "a seven-month distraction."
Conway suggests that leaders of the Democratic Party are hypocritical for denouncing Comey when he publically berated Hilary Clinton over her emails, but now criticizing the Trump for firing the disgraced F.B.I. director. Conway, however, is mistaken in her criticism because the firing of Comey is not the issue, rather, the timing of it. The information Trump cited in regards to why Comey was ultimately fired is a surprising development for a president whose campaign knew this information before the election culminated and benefitted from the accusations. No word has been made of Comey's replacement.
