In a much-deserved recognition of the street on which hip-hop was born, the Bronx's Sedgwick Avenue has been proclaimed to be Hip-Hop Boulevard. The renaming ceremony was part of Thursday's (June 8) Global Hip Hop Day.
The ceremony went down in Morris Heights at 1520 Sedgwick Blvd., where Clive Campbell, aka DJ Kool Herc, is recognized as having founded hip-hop back in 1973.
Herc was on hand for the renaming ceremony along with several other pioneers of the genre including DJ Scratch, Grandmaster Caz, Kid Capri, Slick Rick, and many more.
