Relations between the community and police across the country continue to worsen, and now a video has surfaced from earlier this year showcasing a Baltimore officer manipulating evidence in order to charge a suspect. Fox45 in Baltimore revealed a video showing footage from a police officer’s body camera. In the video, the officer with the body camera was with two other officers in an alley. The camera then shows the body cam officer picking up a can and pulling out drugs from it. Previously, the officer had placed the drugs there to attempt to charge a suspect nearby. The officer had gone to get the drugs out of the can after turning on his body camera.
According to reports, the footage caused a man to be held on drug charges since January 2017 on $50,000 bail that he was not able to pay. Despite having footage of the officer committing the act of planting drugs, the officer was still called as a witness on another case days later. Since then, the Baltimore Police have issued a statement to the press, saying, “We take allegations like this very seriously and that’s why we launched an internal investigation into the accusations. We are fortunate to have Body Worn Cameras which provide a perspective on the events as reported.”
