Ravens president Dick Cass responded to the buzz surrounding Baltimore's lingering interest in Colin Kaepernick on Sunday, July 30. While speaking at a fan forum Cass acknowledged that the team has spoken directly with the former 49ers quarterback and continues to weigh the possibility of bringing him on board as a backup for nine-year veteran Joe Flacco. Cass was also more transparent than the executives of other teams who've courted Kaepernick have been about how his activism might factor into a decision on whether or not to sign him.

"We want to get a sense of what the attitude is out there and how Colin would handle it if he were to come, how he'd handle it and how that would change people's views," Cass is quoted as saying.

The Ravens became the latest team to float the idea of taking Kaepernick in following news that Flacco is struggling through a nagging back injury. Talk of a Kaepernick lead Ravens team would briefly shut down as soon as the team went out and got arena football starter David Olson as a reinforcement. However, during Friday's practice the team's current number two guy at the position, Ryan Mallett, threw for five interceptions, thereby prompting many to urge that Kaepernick be brought back to the table.

Flacco himself was asked about the possibility of bringing the run-first QB over, and his response seemed to reflect that he could warm up to the idea. "I would like to see Colin get back in the NFL and, at some point, maybe get another shot to be a starter," he told reporters. "I wouldn't like that to be here. I do not want him to get another shot [to be a starter] here, but yes, he can come here and have some fun. I think it would be a good spot for him."
