Wrestling fans have been relieved to learn that Ric Flair's surgery was a success, but most perhaps weren't aware of just how dangerous a predicament the WWE Hall of Famer was in. News of Flair's condition rolled out slowly, with early reports being so vague that it was initially thought that his hospitalization was heart-related. It eventually got out that Flair's medically induced coma came after he experienced a health crisis stemming from a blockage in his bowels, but that didn't mean his circumstance was any less severe. In fact, those closest to the 68-year-old legend were nearly prepared to make funeral arrangements considering how low his chances of survival were.
“Apparently it was really a touch and go situation, they explained to Ricky Steamboat, and when the Nature Boy had that first surgery, the doctors said that Ric had a 20% chance of survival of making it through that surgery," Jerry Lawler said during the most recent edition of his Dinner with the King podcast.
Flair has since lost part of his bowels, but he is in good spirits and recently promised a comeback. His daughter Charlotte had taken time off of Smackdown to be her father's side, and she too has resumed with tapings. In a recent interview with Renee Young, Charlotte confirmed that while it may take some time before Flair is back up and running, he has begun rehabilitation and is expected to make a full recovery.
