Donald Trump has been making a conscious effort to comment on everything except world matters, with the latest of his comments via a rally in Alabama to be directed at the NFL. Trump commented on players taking a knee during the national anthem, noting that players who kneel should be fired by the team owners. Trump went on to say that if fans “leave the stadium” while players take a knee, he guarantees “things will stop.” Trump also went on to say that owners should react to players kneeling by saying “Get that son of a b-tch off the field right now, he’s fired. He’s fired!”

Since then, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell released a statement addressing Trump’s comments. Goodell said “The NFL and our players are at our best when we help create a sense of unity in our country and our culture. There is no better example than the amazing response from our clubs and players to the terrible natural disasters we've experienced over the last month.” Goodell went on to say “Divisive comments like these demonstrate an unfortunate lack of respect for the NFL, our great game and all of our players, and a failure to understand the overwhelming force for good our clubs and players represent in our communities."
