In the midst of the political controversies engulfing the sports arena, particularly in the National Football League, the NBA (National Basketball Association) has been seen as the more progressive sports organization. WIth marquee players like LeBron James and Stephen Curry openly criticizing the president, and San Antonio Spurs head coach Greg Popovich offering a clear and concise summation of systemic racism, the perception of the NBA's progressiveness may be warranted. And unlike the NFL, the NBA didn't deal with any of the National Anthem controversies. Therefore, when asked about the NBA's players intent to stand for the anthem this coming season, Commissioner Adam Silver made it clear that he believed the players would continue to stand. To Silver, the National Anthem serves as a time for reflection and respect and not so much about patriotism. This may be true considering that 25 percent of the NBA's players aren't from the United States. Silver just hopes that the league's players will continue to use the National Anthem as a time of unity.
