San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz called the images of President Donald Trump tossing paper towels into a crowd of Hurricane Maria victims in Puerto Rico “abominable.”

Cruz spoke with MSNBC earlier this week where she voiced her frustrations with the images that are circulating. “This terrible, and abominable view of him throwing paper towels, and throwing provisions at people. It does not embody the spirit of the American nation,” she said. “That is not the land of the free and the home of the brave. The beacon of democracy that people have learned to look up to across the world.” Cruz also said that Trump insulted the people of Puerto Rico by comparing their suffering to victims of Hurricane Katrina.

During one of his meetings in the Hurricane ravaged island, Trump strangely boasted about what he believed was a low death toll for the storm. “Sixteen people versus in the thousands,” he said. "You can be very proud of all of your people and all of our people working together. Sixteen versus literally thousands of people. You can be very proud. Everyone around this table and everyone watching can be very proud of what’s taking place in Puerto Rico.” He also told Puerto Rico that providing aid to them was throwing the U.S.’s budget out of whack.
