On Thursday, October 5, the New York Times broke a story alleging over 30 years of sexual misconduct by Hollywood super-producer Harvey Weinstein. Since the release of the story, Weinstein has been fired from his company along with the resignation four members of his all-male board.
The New Yorker released a harrowing follow-up story Tuesday morning (Oct. 10), by Ronan Farrow, who was told by thirteen women that Weinstein sexually harassed or assaulted them between 1990 and 2015. Within the long-form piece is a chilling audio recording of Weinstein admitting to groping model Ambra Gutierrez. She is one of several of the women whose story is told in New Yorker piece.
In 2015, Gutierrez told police the producer aggressively groped her:
In the office, she sat with Weinstein on a couch to review the portfolio, and he began staring at her breasts, asking if they were real. Gutierrez later told officers of the New York Police Department Special Victims Division that Weinstein then lunged at her, groping her breasts and attempting to put a hand up her skirt while she protested. He finally backed off and told her that his assistant would give her tickets to “Finding Neverland,” a Broadway play that he was producing. He said that he would meet her at the show that evening.
Following the incident, Gutierrez reported it to the police and went to see Weinstein the next day to record a conversation. While the producer admits to groping on her breasts, he remarks "I'm sorry. Please just come on in. I'm used to that" as he tries to pressure the model to come into his hotel room as he gets ready for his day.
