Anytime Eminem is on the bill it's a huge deal, regardless of the occasion. As the hours wound down to the 2017 BET Hip Hop Awards on Tuesday night, October 10, host DJ Khaled leaked word that they might have something in store for the fans from the "Rap God." Fans may recall Em joining Mos Def and Black Thought for a classic 2009 BET Hip Hop Awards cypher, and thus many who tuned in did so in anticipation that he'd have something big to deliver once again. And he certainly didn't fail at that.
In a four-and-a-half minute freestyle recorded in a Detroit car garage last week, the Shady/Aftermath legend poured his heart out on a subject he's increasingly raised the volume on over the past year: the presidency of Donald J. Trump. Eminem dedicated his entire verse towards tearing the President down for what Em conveyed to be his efforts to divide the nation and oppress people of color along his path to a four-year term in office. He raised the names of former White House senior counselor and alt-right propagandist Steve Bannon and balanced that out with references to Colin Kaepernick and NFL players taking a knee and raising a fist in protest of inequality in the nation. Em raised a fist himself and stated his solidarity with the movement, before issuing an ultimatum to his massive, overwhelmingly white, fan base.

Em raised a fist himself and stated his solidarity with the movement, before issuing an ultimatum to his fan base.
“Any fan of mine who’s a supporter of his, I’m drawing in the sand a line—you’re either for or against. And if you can’t decide who you like more and you’re split on who you should stand beside, I’ll do it for you with this: f**k you,” he completed his performance stating.
The cypher came minutes after Miami Dolphins star Michael Thomas took to the stage to speak on how he took a knee with the vision of planting seeds for a better and more equitable world for his children. In hindsight, many may deem Eminem to have been the perfect artist to follow the speech up, as he's been pressing the issue against the President ever since the Presidential election of 2016, when he dropped the politically charged "Campaign Speech." And over the past couple of months, snippets filmed at concerts have leaked to show the rap great rallying his audiences against the President with "F*ck Trump" chants.
