Congresswoman Maxine Waters currently is serving as a representative for the 43rd congressional district in California. As of now, a Republican candidate named Omar Navarro is looking to take her place, and he has made major waves after posting a photo via Twitter that takes shots at the Long Beach Public Library.
The Long Beach Library conducted LGBTQ History Month, and featured a drag queen named Xochi Mochi, who read to children as part of “Drag Queen Story Hour.” The library posted a photo via Twitter of the event, which featured children and adults staring at the book being read by Xochi. The drag queen is wearing a red wig that has sparkly horns with red tips, a dress, full makeup, and costume jewelry. The story hour is a collaboration between the library, the LGBTQ Center of Long Beach, and the Imperial Court of Long Beach. Despite people coming together to acknowledge LGBTQ history, Navarro had some words for the event via Twitter. He wrote, “What are we teaching kids in school? Demonic teachings alive in Long Beach. I’m outraged they would allow this.”
Although the LBPL did not respond to Navarro, a photo of the event was posted to Facebook and Twitter, but was removed shortly after.
