The timing of the shooting that recently left Young Dolph recuperating in a hospital looks like it'll work out in his favor relative to the slated release of his latest album, While U Here on Friday, October 20. The Memphis rapper just dropped his video for the premier single, "Believe Me," and it is filled with imagery from the hospital he rested in through the days that followed the near-fatal incident.
The video opens up with a black and white shot of a police vehicle that transitions to his dolphin styled necklace piece hanging, as the voice over of a news reporter plays. The September date of the Los Angeles shooting then fades from the screen, before Dolph fades in from his hospital bed. Although the references are clear enough to imply that the video serves to signify the will Dolph has after surviving the attack, he told Billboard that he didn't mean for the content of the song and the incident to be related as such.
“It’s a personal a** song about what I’m dealing with, my inner life, feelings, about close friendships disintegrating over some bulls**t," Dolph says. "You can hear it in the second verse, the song is about family and morals. You either get life or you don’t. When I was recording the song, I knew I had to have my kids in the video, the only difference is that I shot it in California instead of Memphis or Atlanta. This has nothing to do with the shooting."
