Puerto Rico is still being affected by the aftermath of the devastating Hurricane Maria, and now the former Governor of Puerto Rico has shown how dire things have gotten for the territory. Former Governor Alejandro Padilla tweeted out a photo of doctors in the territory performing surgery using the light from their cell phones to operate. The tweet under his photo read, “This is what POTUS calls a 10! Surgery performed with cellphones as flashlights in Puerto Rico today.”
The tweet was a response to Trump’s previous comments about the progress he feels he and his administration have made with the relief efforts. Trump went as far as rating himself, saying “I would give myself a 10.” He continued on, “I think we've done a really great job and we've had tremendous cooperation from the governor and we are getting there and people are really seeing the effort that's been put into Puerto Rico."
Despite his claims via Twitter, reports noted that 28 percent of the territory still does not have running water. Along with that, almost 90 percent of the island does not have electricity. Previously, it was reported that it could take up to half the year to restore power to Puerto Rico.
