Hollywood continues to distance itself from the disgraced film executive Harvey Weinstein after allegations of sexual assault and rape have surfaced from over 50 women through the industry. Weinstein has been removed from his own company, continues to be under investigation, and since Monday, October 30, Weinstein is no longer a member of the Producers Guild of America.
In a statement released by the Producers Guild, Harvey Weinstein's past cannot be reconciled and therefore his lifetime membership with the Hollywood organization has been terminated. The statement read "This unprecedented step is a reflection of the seriousness with which the Guild regards the numerous reports of Mr. Weinstein’s decades of reprehensible conduct, [...] Sexual harassment can no longer be tolerated in our industry or within the ranks of Producers Guild membership."
The New York Times reported Monday, that Weinstein's accuser count ballooned to 80 women dating back to the 1970s. Some of the high-profile accusers include Rose McGowan, Angelina Jolie, Cara Delevingne, Kate Beckinsale, Annabella Sciorra, Lupita Nyong’o, and Minka Kelly.
