Recently, LiAngelo Ball and his two UCLA teammates—Cody Riley and Jalen Hill were recently seen boarding a flight back to the United States from China after being arrested for shoplifting in a Hangzhou Louis Vuitton store. The three UCLA players were held and restricted to staying in their hotel in China while the rest of their teammates were able to return to the states with no issue.
Since then, the players were released and the charges against them were dropped. Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott noted, “the matter has been resolved to the satisfaction of the Chinese authorities.” Scott also thanked Donald Trump, saying “We want to thank the president, the White House and the U.S. State Department for their efforts towards resolution.”
ABC News recently caught up with Trump and asked him about the LiAngelo Ball situation, saying he spoke with President Xi of China. Trump said “What they did was unfortunate. You know you are talking about very long prison sentences. They do not play games.” Trump noted, “President Xi has been terrific on that subject, but that was not a good subject.”
