Recently, rising SoundCloud rapper Lil Peep, real name Gustav Ahr, tragically died of a drug overdose at 21. He was noted to be a frequent drug user (lean and Xanax) not unlike his peers amongst rap culture. He was found unresponsive on his tour bus in Tuscon, Arizona, just hours before he was scheduled for a performance on November 15. Just prior to that, he had posted a video (that has since been deleted) to Instagram in which he states that he took 6 Xanax pills. Law enforcement has stated that Lil Peep was found with marijuana, Xanax, and a tan powder-like substance at the time of his death. The late musician also frequently alluded to using drugs to cope with depression, in his music.

Now, after completing autopsies and further investigation into the tragedy, authorities believe that Lil Peep may have taken drugs laced with Fentanyl. Fentanyl is a powerful painkiller, usually given for general anesthesia and cancer pain treatment. While Xanax, on its own, has a fairly low risk of overdose, Fentanyl is is a synthetic opioid that is known to lead to overdose deaths. Authorities are aware of an existing Fentanyl-laced-drug problem in Tuscon and intend on investigating the situation further to confirm the rapper's tragic death.

In April 2016, famed musician Prince also died of a Fentanyl overdose.
