Tensions boiled over between DeMarcus Cousins and Kevin Durant at the Smoothie King Center on Monday night, December 4. As a result of a confrontation that nearly got physical in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter, both men were ejected from the Pelicans vs. Warriors matchup.
Cousins and Durant are said to have been jawing off at one another for much of the second half of the game, throughout which Golden State waged a rally to come back from a 21 point deficit. With 1:14 remaining and the Pelicans down by a score of 118-110, Cousins was tossed, as was Durant, over an altercation that appeared to escalate moments after the New Orleans center nudged his head into Durant's shoulder. Draymond Green and Andre Iguodala eventually wound up having to restrain Durant, as a couple of coaches from the Pelicans bench rushed over to turn Cousins back towards the locker room.
Durant completed his night with 19 points, seven rebounds, and five assists, and Cousins had put together 19 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists, five steals and three blocked shots by the time he was done for the night. Both men are expected to incur $25,000 fines for lingering around in confrontation with one another after their ouster.
