The mother of slain NBA baller Lorenzen Wright exploded on the man suspected of killing her son back in July of 2010, on Thursday, December 7.
Appearing in court alongside other members of Wright's family, Deborah Marion struggled to contain herself as she watched 46-year-old Billy Turner enter to face a judge for the first time since he was arrested and charged with first-degree murder on Tuesday. The room would be startled by Marion's outburst, not long after the hearing began.
Moments after she yelled, "How could you have murdered my son?" Shelby County Judge Lee Coffee called the distressed mother over to express his sorrow and understanding, as someone who also lost his father to a murderer but was firm in warning that she would be banned from attending future proceedings if it happened again.
“The family has been suffering through this for seven years. So they’re the ones with obviously a lot of feelings in the courtroom today,” Assistant District Attorney Paul Hagerman would say in Marion's defense. The family would soon leave the building without speaking with reporters.
Turner is currently being held on $1 million bond. He is due back in court for his arraignment next week.
