According to multiple reports, Kanye West has put up funds behind a candidate in Chicago's upcoming mayoral race. Amara Enyia, a once little-known candidate in the race saw her name gain traction after gaining a glowing endorsement from Chance The Rapper and has now gotten a sizeable campaign donation from Kanye West.

The Chicago Tribune reports that Ye donated $73,540 to Enyia's campaign which was the exact amount she needed to cover fines she accrued as a matter of her brief 2015 mayoral candidacy. Enyia withdrew from 2015 race after petition signatures on her behalf were challenged but failed to close the campaign account. As a result, Enyia was slapped with penalties related to a lack of campaign finance reports submitted.

Ye's contribution alleviated this debt as Enyia's campaign released a statement saying, “the $73,540 debt to the Illinois State Board of Elections has been paid in full.” Adding, “The Amara Enyia campaign thanks Chicago native, Kanye West, for his generous action, [...] Amara’s campaign is energizing people around the city with bold ideas and solutions that move Chicago forward. We are excited to engage people of all walks of life as we focus our efforts on getting on the ballot.”
