New York City officials recently gave a formal apology after sending a collection letter to a man killed by an NYPD vehicle.

The NYPD were engaged in a chase with 23-year-old Tamon Robinson after catching him digging up paving stones in Brooklyn. Robinson was struck by the vehicle while on foot. Some time later, Robinson's mother opened her mailbox and found a letter from a law firm retained by the city. The letter was addressed to Tamon, ordering him to pay $710 for damage to the NYPD vehicle. They added that he must pay within 10 days.
