While many Nicki Minaj fans are very pleased with her latest work for her "Lookin As* Ni**a" video, there are many who have been nothing short of offended that she chose to use an iconic image of Malcolm X as the cover art for the new single. Nicki originally posted the picture on her Instagram account, but has since deleted it due to the massive wave of fan disapproval. Given the title of the song, you can understand why she chose this particular image, however the content of the song and the visuals in the video are what many people believe to be the opposite of what Malcolm X would've supported.
The image in question was taken in 1964 as Malcolm is shown holding an M1 Carbine rifle peering outside of a window inside of his Queens, NY home, after having left the nation of Islam. He was assassinated a year later. The image has been used by fellow Hip-Hop artist such as KRS-One for the cover of the Boogie Down Productions album, By All Means Necessary, showing KRS standing in the same pose holding an Uzi.
Given the fact that it is Black History Month, and the contrast of what Nicki rapped about in the song and how she appeared in various sexually charged poses in the video, many feel as though it was disrespectful to chose an image such as this to be the cover of her work. In the past, Lil Wayne came under fire for comparing beating up a woman's genitals to the brutal murder of Emmett Till on Future's "Karate Chop" single.
