Now that the holiday season is underway, Birdman has made a goal of supplying the less fortunate with Thanksgiving dinner for his 19th annual turkey giveaway.
In an interview with XXL, the Cash Money boss says his past struggles with poverty inspires him to help out as much as he can. Birdman plans to go to Atlanta and New Orleans this year and hand out as many turkeys as he can to give everyone a sense of comfort during the holidays.
"I used to go in the store and me and my friends would go in the store and run out with all the turkeys," he said. "And be like, "F*** it." You heard me? And go bring them back into the project. We had no food. Nobody had nothing to eat," said Birdman. "So we'll go in there, take the turkeys, have some of the females go get the dressings. And we go in the projects and we stay in a circle. And we feed the whole circle. We gonna do that s** like Monday through Friday until they really stop letting us in the motherf*****."
Since the launch of turkey giveaways in 1996, the philanthropist has given away 50,000 turkeys. Birdman plans to make this year bigger than before and uphold the promises he's made to his family and himself when it comes to helping the less fortunate.
"I said when I get some money, I'ma feed my projects," he said. "Feed where I come from. When I did get some money, I was 18 years old. 17 years old, making 18 when I signed with Universal for $30 million dollars. When I did get some money, I just go and get as many as we can. Then we just made it out of an event. I get the whole Universal staff. Everybody come down and we get as many as we can possibly get, as they allow us to buy."
Birdman has also launched a campaign encouraging children to read with his Cash Money Content Division called #IRead #WeRead last month. Birdman urged children and adults to tweet about the books they read to spread awareness and conversation about illiteracy in the African American community.
