Big Sean's holiday was a somber one to say the least after he shared with fans the news of his grandmother's passing.

The Detroit rapper took to Instagram to share his love and admiration for his grandmother who supported his rap career. The G.O.O.D. Music artist shared some of his grandmother's biggest accomplishments including being one of the first African American women to hold the title of a captain in World War II and being a police officer when it was a rarity for women to be a part of the force. Using his track, "Memories," Sean posted several slideshows of his grandmother donning her uniform and one of their last photos together.

Sean ended his ode to his grandmother on a high note as he shared more intimate family photos.

"I will forever be grateful I got to know and be loved by such an amazing woman" he said. "I'm so proud of her. She was truly a treasure to this world and everyone she came in contact with. She's the reason why I'm so passionate about giving back. Her spirit will live through her family. We miss and love u so much Grandma!"
