Unfortunately things aren't looking so swell for Jay Z's teetering Tidal music streaming service. Quite frankly, it appears to be a sinking ship, as compared to its competitive opposition. In what was supposed to be viable challengers for the likes of Spotify, Pandora and Beats Music, Tidal has not only dropped out of iTune's top 700 apps within weeks of its launch, but according to Hits Daily Double, the music streaming app is only averaging 1 million streams per day in total.
HDD states, "Jay Z's Tidal has opted to ignore the new-artist sector in favor of superstars, and the strategy is not working. For example, it's believed that Tidal's total streams average around 1m a day, while individual tracks on Spotify regularly hit that number. Tidal's top-heavy branding approach, with its emphasis on these older, established acts, simply doesn't have the currency that Apple has maintained by prioritizing newer acts, having discerned early on that the discovery process is part of the cool factor."
As Jay Z's formidable plan seems to be currently catching up to the rapper/mogul — coincidentally — not only has Spotify seen an increase after the arrival of Tidal, but the newly launched hi-fi streaming service is also being held responsible for dropping the ball on the release of Rihanna's "American Oxygen" single, which subsequently sold 19k in its four days since the release.
In hindsight, things can ultimately improve for Jay and his revamped staff, as reports has indicated there is a duet album with his wife Beyonce on the horizon, in which will see an impending release via Tidal – which – of course, would help the declining app in so many ways at this point.
