New York native Maino sat down with VladTV to discuss how his troubled past keeps him on the right track and why he should be considered a king to the people of the struggle.
Maino who served prison time over ten years ago for a kidnapping, says his past has helped him realize the harsh realities of the prison system and how it affects more people outside the jail cell.
"I want to take this time out to salute all of the mothers, daughters, friends, fathers, cousins, whoever that take the time out to be connected with their loved ones in prison and going through what they're going through," he said.
"Especially wives because they're going up there every week taking those packages, they dealing with the phone bill, they're dealing with the frustration of having a boyfriend or husband behind those walls. That is the ultimate testimony of love right there."
During his time in prison, the Brooklyn native launched his rapping career. Since serving his time, Maino has seen success with platinum selling singles including the triumphant single, "All The Above" featuring T-Pain.
Maino says that it's his duty to give back to the community by speaking to troubled teens in detention centers. He also says he's determined to find a positive method to reduce violence between youths.
