West coast spitter Kurupt sat down with VladTV and explained exactly why he and his fellow Dogg Pound members kicked down NYC's skyscrapers in their legendary "New York, New York" video, saying it was a response to being shot at while in the city.
The original video concept included featuring all the hottest New York rappers at the time, such as Nas, Biggie and Big L, and showing unity between coasts while also showing love to the mecca of Hip Hop culture, New York City. After the shooting, however, they chose to show their frustration by destroying the city's buildings in the video. They also travelled to NYC the week after the video premiered to let people know they were serious and unafraid of anyone.
