A Denver police officer was fired after pinning a woman down with his knee in an effort to remove her belt and shoes during an arrest.

According to the Associated Press, Seryina Trujill was arrested in July 2014 for disrupting an arrest. After Officer James Medina asked Tujill to remove her belt and shoes while in a holding cell, the two were seen in the video at odds. The veteran cop can be seen pressing his knee on Trujill's neck which sends her into unconsciousness shortly afterwards.

During his trial last week, officials revealed that Medina didn't report the incident because he believed he did not use excessive force. It also wasn't brought to a supervisor's attention until four days later.

"Clearly his actions taken as a whole are not in line with the values of the police department," said Cmdr. Matt Murray. "We have repeatedly talked about the fact there is a culture of change within the Denver Police Department demanded by the community and this is a part of it."

Medina is currently planning to appeal his firing.
