Kendrick Lamar recently sat down with MTV for one of his most in-depth interviews to date to discuss his new album, To Pimp A Butterfly.

The Compton wordsmith spoke on a number of topics surrounding the album, including the inspirations behind tracks like "Wesley's Theory" and "The Blacker The Berry." He also revealed that depression and even suicidal thoughts were a factor in the creation of this body of work. Lamar also spoke on his affinity for 2Pac, a bond so strong that the original title of the album was an homage to the legendary rapper called "Tu Pimp a Caterpillar," abbreviated as TuPaC.
