In this exclusive interview with VladTV, Ashanti speaks on the song that jump started her career, the Grammy winning single, "Foolish."
Penned by the singer and produced by 7 Aurelius, Mark Debarge and Irv Gotti, Ashanti says Irv inspired her to write the song after one of his relationships went sour. The singer said after Irv gave her the idea, she wrote the song and they laid the track down.
Since it shares elements of DeBarge's "Stay With Me," the sultry singer says Diddy and Irv would go back and forth about the influence of the late Notorious B.I.G's "One More Chance (Remix.)" The single, released in 2002, went on to put Ashanti on the map and the single eventually would go on to be the second best selling physical single of the 21st century.
The singer also revealed that Jay Z was supposed to be on "Foolish," but Irv wanted the singer to write her own verse.
When it comes to "Unfoolish," the remix, Ashanti says it was tough for Irv to win over Diddy so he could pass along Biggie's verse. The verse originally stemmed from the single, "F*** You Tonight" from the rapper's Life After Death album.
