The late 90's/early 2000's was a turning point for Hip-Hop. With Ja Rule, Jay Z, and DMX running the charts, it was impossible to think that it would have been better. However Irv Gotti believes it could have been a lot bigger than what it was.
Gotti posted a picture of the three artists and shared a story of DMX and Jay Z doing a collaborative album in Murder Inc.'s heyday.
The caption reads:
"I always still think if this would have happened. The ideas I had for this shit! For me. It wasn't even about the money. Y'all gotta understand. I was with Jay in 87. DMX in 88. Rule in 90. I knew all of these niggas was different and special. And I was the link to all of them. I just wanted them all to get in the studio and goooooo. Cause they was all so competitive with each other. Every song. Every verse would have been like a battle. With each one giving there very best to try and outshine the other. Man. I still think about it. And to make it even more of an event. It was gonna come with a MOVIE. A TOUR. A MAKING OF THE ALBUM DVD. All dropping the SAME DAY. I was gonna try and do everything I could in an 18 month period to do something that could never be duplicated. Sheesh. Just sitting here typing this gets me amped. My mind was gonna go crazy. Me and Swizz. Produce the whole album. Maybe 2 radio records. The rest. All GANGSTA SHIT! But EAST COAST GANGSTA SHIT. wasn't even gonna attempt to try and go where Dr. Dre goes. Was gonna do something for the streets of NYC!! For Brooklyn. Queens and Yonkers. Word. No way it wouldn't have been the best HIP HOP ALBUM ever made."
He continues to say that it was chance that passed him by.
"I always get tagged with people still talking about this shit. Such is life. It will never happen. Time has passed it by. But fuck. It still haunts my creative brain of what could have been. Love all these niggas. Of course @ruleyorkcity is a lil different for me. Me and him is one of a kind when it comes to niggas riding and being truly done for one another. Shit. Sorry for the long story. But woke up thinking what could have been....... #murder4life #visionary"
What do you think the outcome would have been if Jay and X and Ja Rule made the album?
