An East Bay school in California has apologized for announcing chicken, cornbread and watermelon would be served at the private school to promote Black History Month.
Carondelet private school's Nancy Libby's sent a letter to parents claiming that they didn't mean to offend African Americans or any other race. Dr. James Taylor of USF University doesn't think so.
'It doesn't represent a proud moment in culture," he says about the stereotype of soul food. "It represent a degredation of stereotyping of African Americans."
