A photo of a California inmate took the web by storm and created an interesting conversation on the differences between physical interests in men and women.
According to the Daily Mail, Jeremy Meeks a 30 -year-old inmate was the source of the Internet chatter after his mugshot went viral. With some women captivated by his chiseled looks, a #FreeJeremyMeeks hashtag was created on Twitter and jokes surfaces of women wanting to bail him out of jail.
While Meeks awaited his arraignment on Friday, he said he was flattered by the praise he received online, but insists he isn't the criminal everyone thinks he is.
"I appreciate [the attention] but I just want them to know that this is really not me,' he said. 'I'm not some kingpin."
Meeks has a long rap sheet of random crimes and was involved in gang activity with the Northside Crips. His family says he left the gang life behind over seven years ago after finding God.
"I cannot deny they were members and they call each other brothers but they have given all that up,' his family member told the Daily Mail. "This has all been ridiculous. People think this is funny but the families are hurting."
A cousin spoke out on behalf of his wife who is embarrassed by all of the attention Meeks' photo has gotten on the web.
"He is a loving father, husband, brother, and uncle,' she said. "He has a past and because of it he is being stereotyped. We wish all the judgement would stop... He just wants to get home to his family."
Meeks is currently being held on a $900,000 bond with Terry Bailey, 22, Juzri Coleman,18, and Joelin Coleman, 44 on gun charges.
