Frank Maloney, the famed boxing promoter who helped Lennox Lewis earn his world heavyweight title in the 90's has announced that he will live his life as a woman named Kellie.

In an interview with Britain's The Mirror, Maloney says he's always believed that he was a woman.

"I was born in the wrong body and I have always known I was a woman," Maloney said. "I can't keep living in the shadows. That is why I am doing what I am today. Living with the burden any longer would have killed me."

The 61-year-old said goodbye to the industry in 2013 to begin his sex change. Maloney says boxing helped him have a clear head.

"(Boxing) took up all of my time," he said. "It gave me a complete focus. It was something I thought I had to be successful in because I thought if I failed in that, where do I go?"

Maloney added he's ready to begin his procedure to be woman including hormone pills and various surgeries.

"What was wrong at birth is now being medically corrected," he said. "I have a female brain. I knew I was different from the minute I could compare myself to other children. I wasn't in the right body. I was jealous of girls."

When asked about the possible backlash from the boxing community, he says that he doesn't care.

"The boxing community can think whatever they want about me now." he said. " I have come to terms with my transition but I don't understand it. I hope society will be open minded."
