Rachel Dolezal's parents Ruthanne and Larry spoke out about the Spokane NAACP president falsely portraying herself as black during a sit-down with CNN, and they claim their daughter separated herself from the family for her image. Ruthanne said, "Rachel has chosen to distance herself from the family and be hostile toward us. She doesn't want us where she is. She doesn't want to be seen with us, because it ruins her image."
The couple also spoke about Rachel going to Howard University on a full ride scholarship, and they insisted that she didn't try and portray herself as black for entrance to the school. However, they added that people at the university were shocked when they saw Rachel, who is of Czech, Swedish and German ancestry, walk in.
